-"Are you there my sista? my sista can you hear me? Hello? Hellooo? Sistaaa?"
-Me silently breathing the whole time.
-"Sista I cannot hear you o"
-"Akwesi. Where are you?"
-"Aaaah sista. How was di trip? Akwaaba. Chale I am glad you are here. I was just.."
-"Akwesi. Where are you?"
-"Sista I am here. I should be di one asking you where you are. Are you in East Legon?"
Before I can answer her, Kaku grabs my phone and start speaking in Twi, one of the language spoken in Ghana. Before I can digest what is happening in between my anger at Akwesi and the sweet yet firm voice of Kaku on the phone, Akwesi is on speaker.
-"Tell her. TELL HER." Kaku yells.
Tell me what I am thinking.
-"Sista, I am currently in Ibadan. I was hoping my cousin would take care of you until I come. Sista don't get upset. Sista who is this mista on the phone nah?"
I am too stunned to speak. The only word that comes out of my mouth is a loud "WHAT?".
-"My cousin does not have car o madam. Just come to the university hospital in Legon. From there his friend will pick you up and take you home until I arrive in the weekend sista. Sista are you there? Madam are you there? Hello??"
I hung up. Stare blankly at Kaku. He reassuringly smiles at me and ask me " Are you coming?"
I do not say a word during the whole car ride to Kaku's parent's house. I am pissed, tired, scared and disenchanted. I catch him starring at me few times and I wonder if my left eye fake lash has finally lost its grip and is holding for dear life. It does not matter. My looks have no importance at the moment. I try hard not to fall asleep. There is a lot of traffic, the only thing keeping me from falling asleep at this point are the loud honks and the afrobeats music playing on the radio. I like this one that is currently playing. It goes like "allow me to kiss your hand, be your man, you know I understand...". I want to Shazam it but.. but. Where the f*** is my phone???
